Netflix Acquires Kevin James Comedy ‘The True Memoirs of an International Assassin’

Netflix has acquired the comedy The True Memoirs of an International Assassin starring Kevin James, who plays an accountant suffering from an extreme case of mistaken identity. After accidentally publishing a novel as a true story, James’ character finds himself chased across the world as people mistake him for a cold-blooded assassin.

The story will follow Kevin James’ character, a mild-mannered accountant and author, as he publishes his first novel about a skilled and deadly assassin. But, in a cruel and funny twist, when published, it’s sorted as nonfiction rather than fiction and James suddenly finds himself on the run from those who now believe him to be that very assassin. In Belize, where he flees, he actually does get caught up in an assassination plot and must channel his fictional character, Colt Rodgers, to survive.

The movie, acquired by Netflix and produced through Merced Media and Palmstar Media, will be directed by Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2). It is written by Jeff Morris and produced by Todd Garner (Paul Blart: Mall Cop), Kevin Frakes, and Raja Collins, among others. Netflix also struck deals for the films Beasts of No Nation and Jadotville.

Kevin James, fresh off his role in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, is also set to star in this summer’s Pixels and will reprise his voice role as Frankenstein in Hotel Transylvania 2The True Memoirs of an International Assassin has no set release date yet.
