Netflix has acquired the rights to the satirical comedy War Machine, to be produced by and starring Brad Pitt. The movie is set to be released in select theaters next year and will simultaneously stream on Netflix for subscribers.
The movie, an adaptation of Michael Hastings’ book, The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan, is a satire on the war in Afghanistan. Brad Pitt will star as a General whose perfect record lands him the gig of leading the whole war in Afghanistan. David Michod (Animal Kingdom) is directing as well as adapting the screenplay from the book.
Pitt’s production company, Plan B, is producing the movie, which is set to start principal photography in August. The movie will be a behind-the-scenes look at war and the decision-making process of wars themselves, according to Netflix COO Ted Sarandos. Brad Pitt stated that he is excited to be a part of “the inspiring commitment by Netflix to produce cutting-edge content and to deliver it to a global audience.”
Brad Pitt is also working on several other projects, including By the Sea and The Big Short, and it has also been announced that he will be working on World War Z 2. War Machine is scheduled for release in 2017.
