IFC Midnight has released its first full length trailer for Neill Blomkamp‘s next film Demonic. A little over a month ago IFC released a teaser, but now viewers get to see a little more of the interesting world Blomkamp has created.
Demonic is a supernatural horror- thriller film about a young woman that unleashes terrifying demons from a decades old family riff. IFC acquired the rights to the film earlier this year, then teasing the film about a month after the deal went through, and then last month releasing a teaser alongside a poster for the film.
The film seems to be in line with the modern horror family dynamics of Ari Aster, but with a Neill Blomkamp science-fiction twist. The recently released poster encapsulates this perfectly with digital cross.
The largely sci-fi director will be making his fourth feature film after taking six years off big budgeted feature films.
During his break, Blomkamp has made a ton of shorts as well as a TV mini-series. However, while he is back to the feature film directing chair, he will be making a horror-thriller opposed to his traditional sci-fi films such as District 9, Elysium, and Chappie.
The trailer itself seems daringly-different than most horror films. Demonic also seems a lot smaller than Blomkamp’s more recent features. While the South African director has been very successful, nothing has quite lived up to his feature debut District 9. Perhaps this could.
Demonic is scheduled for a VOD and theatrical release on August 20, 2021, just under a month away.
