As part of the NBA’s deal with Disney to play at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World, NBA players have the opportunity to see Marvel’s Black Widow in advance before its tentative release date of November 6, 2020, according to Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Smith. Both the NBA and Black Widow have been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, so in a way it’s fitting.
Along with the NBA, virtually every professional sports league has been put on pause due to the virus, though there have been stirring about golf, a low contact sport, and possibly baseball coming back soon. Disney in turn has also its share of financial standstill, as productions have been put on hold, parks have been closed to visitors, and Disney cruises have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. The deal between Disney and the NBA to hold games at Disney complex comes from both entities’ desperateness to generate revenue during this trying time. Players and their families also get the privilege of staying at Disney resorts during their time at the park.
Black Widow isn’t the only delayed Disney movie that NBA players will have access too. There is quite a backlog of unreleased Disney movies waiting to be seen until after the crisis has passed: Mulan, The Eternals, Jungle Cruise. As a perk to their playing at the ESPN Complex, NBA players and their families will have access to all these movies.
