Na Hong-Jin’s ‘Hope’ To Serve As Centerpiece For New York Asian Film Festival

Hope, the South Korean action film from director Na Hong-Jin (The Wailing), will see its North American premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival. The director will be present in New York at the premiere on July 20 for an introduction and Q&A. He will also receive the Daniel A. Craft Award for Excellence in Action Cinema. The New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) runs from July 10–26.

Hope is Na Hong-Jin’s first film in 10 years, following The Wailing. The film follows two police officers and a group of hunters who have to fend off a mysterious evil lurking in the forests outside Hope Harbor. The film stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Hoyeon. It also features a handful of international actors, including Michael Fassbender, Taylor Russell, Alicia Vikander, and Cameron Britton.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, receiving a wide range of reactions, but proved to be one of the most memorable films present at the festival. NEON is distributing the film in North America and will hit theaters on September 9.
