Lionsgate’s ‘Blair Witch Project’ Reboot Eyes 2027 Release

The Blair Witch Project is receiving a reboot at Lionsgate, with the studio announcing release date on social media. The film will officially release on September 24, 2027. The film will be directed by Dylan Clark. A script for the film was reportedly written by Chris Thomas Devlin, but Clark will be rewriting it. Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, who starred in the original 1999 film, serve as executive producers. The directing team of the original film, Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale, will also be executive producers.

The project was first announced back in 2024 at CinemaCon as part of Blumhouse and Lionsgate’s multi-film deal. During that initial announcement, Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson called it “a new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.” Jason Blum, James Wan, and Roy Lee all serve as producers on the film. The Blair Witch Project became a smash hit in 1999, being made for a measly $35,000 but grossing $248 million at the global box office. The film helped kick off the found footage horror craze present in the late 90s and early 2000s.

At this point, it is unclear if this new film will be a direct remake or a proper reboot.
