Multiple New Star Wars Films Announced With Daisy Ridley Set To Return

At this year’s Star Wars Celebration held at London’s ExCel Center in London, head of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy announced multiple new Star Wars projects, including new movies and television shows. Longtime Star Wars veteran Dave Filoni, James Mangold, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will be directing each project in addition to the already-announced Taika Waititi film.

Mangold’s film will focus primarily on the beginnings of the Jedi order, set 25,000 years before the original trilogy, a period that has never been explored in the current canon. However, Dark Horse Comics published series titled Dawn of the Jedi, detailing the origins of the order set around a similar period. However, it is unknown if the film will barrow any story elements from the comics. Mangold is best known for directing Logan, 3:10 to Yuma, and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, among other hits.

Filoni’s film will continue to focus on the New Republic era coinciding with The Mandalorian and Ahsoka TV series currently running on Disney+. No new details have been revealed, however. Filoni has worked on multiple Star Wars projects, including The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, and numerous episodes of The Mandalorian.

Obaid-Chinoy, who recently completed work on Ms. Marvel, will use her film to focus on Daisy Ridley’s Ray in the era after The Rise of Skywalker. Obaid-Chinoy states that her film “will tell the story of the rebuilding of a new Jedi order.” It is speculated that Obaid-Chinoy’s film will be the first of the newly announced films to be released.
