Definite excitement for Lady Chatterley’s Lover adaptation is brewing. Deadline has exclusively learned that Joely Richardson (The Tudors), Ella Hunt (Anna and the Apocalypse), and Faye Marsay (The White Queen) are the latest stars to board the romantic drama Lady Chatterley’s Lover, about a scandalous affair between star-crossed lovers for Sony’s 3000 Pictures and Netflix.
They join Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin (The Crown), Jack O’Connell (Unbroken), and Matthew Duckett (Tartuffe).
Lady Chatterley’s Lover will be the first film developed under the new deal, in which Sony Pictures will provide Netflix with the first look at any movie it plans to develop for streaming.
Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (The Mustang) will direct the film. David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland) wrote the script.
Based on D.H. Lawrence’s classic novel that was initially published in Italy and France in the 1920s. However, it wasn’t published in the United States until 1959 due to the written text vulgarity.
The story follows the life of Lady Chatterley (Corrin), who is born to the rich and affluent, and due to society’s expectations, finds herself married to a man that she doesn’t love, and so begins a torrid affair with a gamekeeper on their English estate, discovering more passion and intimacy than she thought possible. When she discovers that she fell heart and soul, she breaks all expectations and traditions to find happiness with the man she loves.
Mrs. Bolton, the confident and curious caretaker, is played by Richardson. Mrs. Flint, the sweet young woman from the hamlet who befriends Lady Chatterley as her first friend, is played by Hunt. Lady Chatterley’s clever and humorous older sister, Hilda, is played by Marsay.
Lady Chatterley’s Lover is currently filming in the UK.
