The new Asia trailer for Godzilla has provided even more plot information and monster eye candy. Having already guessed at the second monster and given some new video clips and samples of dialogue (Aaron-Taylor Johnson’s Ford Brody asks, “Can you kill it?” Ken Watanabe’s Dr. Serizawa replies, “I believe something can.”), it’s perfectly clear that we’re in for a colossal monster battle.
Starting with the original Godzilla in 1954, the iconic creature has starred in nearly 30 films produced by Japan’s Toho Co. (this excludes Roland Emmerich’s version). Early tracking for this movie positions is nearly as profitable as the monster is big, which could prompt new rash of flicks featuring the towering beast from producer Legendary Pictures. Godzilla’s last appearance in a Toho film was in 2004, and a new series would be the first time the Japanese production company is not a primary producer. With the new film coming out in less than a month (May 16) and the long reported publicity campaign (just check out our extensive coverage) soon ending, we will finally see if the rebirth of Godzilla is indeed as monumental and long-lasting as the studios and fans hope.
“Let them fight,” Dr. Serizawa says at the end of the trailer. Enough said.
