Deadline reported on Thursday that Nova, an iconic Marvel Comics character, is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon with a project from Sabir Pirzada. Pirzada wrote for the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, and May Calamawy. It is unknown whether the project will be a feature film or Disney+ series, but Kevin Feige is on board to produce, which is standard for any Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
Nova, also known as Richard Rider, is a legacy Marvel comics character and member of Nova Corps, an intergalactic police force that previously appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy. Nova was even a part of the Guardians himself in some comics, which leads to speculation on whether he might appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Nova gained powers in enhanced strength, flight, and resistance to injury from working with Nova Corps. Not only is he powerful, but he is also a fan-favorite and highly anticipated hero.
This project is likely one of several that Marvel Studios is putting into production in 2023. Other rumored projects include a Thunderbolts movie, Shang-Chi 2, and an Okoye series. These would likely release sometime in 2024 or 2025 since the Marvel 2023 slate is already stacked with The Marvels, Ant-Man: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and Secret Invasion.
For now, Pirzada’s debut Marvel work, Moon Knight, premieres on Disney+ on March 30.
