Norwegian filmmaker and actress Mona Fastvold has signed with Magna Studios, the next-generation production company representing storytellers across scripted, non-fiction, branded, and music video projects. Fastvold’s longtime collaborator and partner, Brady Corbet, joined Magna earlier this year ahead of its official launch in June.
Signing on with co-CEOs Marisa Clifford and Davud Karbassioun, Fastvold has been on the festival circuit for her most recent project, The Testament of Ann Lee. The pre-Revolutionary era film had its North American premiere at TIFF this past September. It follows the founder of the Shaker movement, Ann Lee (Amanda Seyfried). Co-written by Fastvold and Corbet, the historical drama was acquired by Searchlight Pictures following its debut at the Venice Film Festival.
Fastvold and Corbet were nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay for their 2024 film, The Brutalist. The film went on to win three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Adrien Brody.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fastvold said of Magna, “They’ve already shown such passion and enthusiasm for my ideas, and I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities together — ones that challenge me creatively and bring bold original storytelling to audiences everywhere.”
In its brief tenure, Magna has signed talent such as Asif Kapadia (Amy), Danny McBride (The Righteous Gemstones), Jeff Tremaine (Jackass), and Steve McQueen (Blitz).
