Ming-Na Wen Joins Cast Of New ‘Karate Kid’ Film

The upcoming entry in the Karate Kid series has just added a brand new actress to its still expanding roster. Ming-Na Wen has joined the cast, alongside series icons Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan.

Expected to arrive December of 2024, Jonathan Entwistle is set to helm the project, with the screenplay written by Rob Lieber. Karen Rosenfelt is set to produce.

On top of voicing the titular character in 1998’s Mulan, Wen starred as Fennec Shand in The Book Of Boba Fett, opposite Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett. She also appeared in The Mandalorian, where Shand was first introduced. Wen also played in Marvel’s television show Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Macchio played the main character in the first three Karate Kid films, Daniel LaRusso, a young California teen trained in karate by his mentor, Mr. Miyagi. Chan appeared in the 2010 retelling of the story, training a youth who recently moved to China, while also processing his own grief.

As Variety points out, little is known about the new Karate Kid movie. Outside of Macchio and Chan reprising their roles, no details have been revealed as to how other talents will play into the final product. The film comes in the wake of Cobra Kai, Netflix’s series that follows up on the first film’s antagonist, Johnny Lawrence, navigating his tumultuous life.
