Whiplash’s Miles Teller will make his producing debut and also star in The Life and Times of the Stopwatch Gang for Universal Pictures, confirms The Wrap. He will be reuniting with his Two Night Stand director Ruben Fleischer. Based on the article by Josh Dean for the Atavist, the story follows a successful band of Canadian bank robbers in 1980s North America.
According to the opening lines of the article itself,
They were in and out in less than two minutes—that’s how they got away with millions. And for the duration of their reign, no bank robbers were more feared (though they never fired their guns) nor more pursued or more mythologized than the Stopwatch Gang.
The members of the gang included Lionel Wright, “a meticulous introvert who could disappear in a room full of people,” Paddy Mitchell, “a charming and well-connected crook who saw an angle in everything,” and Stephen Reid, “a fearless point man… whose story– of addiction and descent into crime, of redemption and literary fame– was all prelude to a tragic yet lifesaving fall from grace.”
It is unknown which role Teller will take on; however, based on his recent diverse choice of films, Teller could most likely play any of the three crooks. Coming away from his true breakout in the Oscar-winning film Whiplash this past year, Teller has meticulously balanced his Hollywood resume both with major studio flicks and smaller indies. In 2015 he will appear in Insurgent, the second installment of the YA Divergent series. He will star in the Fantastic Four reboot and in Bleed for This as world famous boxer Vinny Pazienza, and is also currently filming another true story, Arms and The Dudes, with Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street).
