Michelle Williams Joins Marvel Movie ‘Venom’

Actress Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea) is the latest cast member to sign onto the upcoming Venom film. While the details of her role have not been explicitly confirmed, she will most likely act as the romantic lead in the film. Hopefully she will also have plenty of material to also portray a well-rounded and capable female character. Supposedly her role will most likely be an attorney, which will certainly allow her character to reveal her passion and intellect.

Housed at Sony, the movie will also feature Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Eddie Brock, AKA Venom, and Riz Ahmed (Rogue One). While there’s been lot of recent confusion about the continuity, if any, amongst Sony-owned Marvel productions, it looks like Venom will not be connected to Tom Holland‘s Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man or the previous Andrew Garfield incarnation of the web-slinger.

While this may make the context simpler, as no other films are necessary viewing, it also gives the filmmakers the added difficulty of making and defining a Spider-Man character outside of the Spider-Man franchise. Considering the talents of the cast, it looks like the actors will work as a force of improvement on the movie. Nonetheless, it looks like audiences will have to wait to judge the quality of the movie until its release date on October 5, 2018!
