Michaela Coel Speaks About Joining ‘Wakanda Forever’

Michaela Coel voiced her excitement and pride to be joining the cast of the new Black Panther movie on the red carpet in London for the film’s European premiere. Michaela Coel is well accomplished, being the first Black woman to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a limited series for her work on I May Destroy You. 

While speaking on the carpet conveying her admiration and application for her contribution to the project she says “The feeling it gives me, as a woman of color, to see my story reflected back still gives me a rush of exhilaration to be seen.“This cast give me a lot of confidence, I feel proud to be among them.”

Coel is set to play a new character, Aneka in Wakanda Forever. Coel joins her female reach cast list, including Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o, and is now a part of the first superhero film to receive an Oscar Nomination for best picture and received 6 other nominations. This week ushers in the highly anticipated movie weekend and fans are excited to see what director Ryan Coogler has in store and to see what new direction the film will follow. 

Black Panther is in the theatre on November 11th.
