Michael Shannon (Nine Perfect Strangers, Knives Out), who played the formidable General Zod in Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, might be returning to play the most formidable foes in the entire DC Extended Universe once again.
General Zod did die in Man of Steel, only to be brought back to life as Doomsday in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Warner Bros. released its 2022 movie slate, seemingly confirming that Shannon is set to appear in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash.
This would undoubtedly surprise fans since Shannon has been discreet about returning to the franchise. Given the new film’s time-traveling nature, it’s also feasible that Shannon will only appear through archived material.
Antje Traue (Woman in Gold), who played Faora-Ul, General Zod’s right hand in Man of Steel, who ended up imprisoned in the Phantom Zone in the film, is also on the official cast list for The Flash. While it would seem reasonable to infer that Michael Shannon is reprising his role as Zod in The Flash, it is unknown if he will.
According to the plot summary released by Warner Bros, Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen “pushes the limits of his superpowers” in his first solo film ever.
The Flash movie will star Miller as the Scarlet Speedster and Ben Affleck as Batman, who will reprise his role from Justice League. The forthcoming DC film will also witness the return of Michael Keaton as Batman for the first time since 1992’s Batman Returns. However, this may not be the only DC movie Keaton returns to since the actor is also on the cast list for the upcoming Batgirl movie, starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon.
The Flash will also feature Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) as Supergirl, Maribel Verdú (Blancanieves) as Nora Allen, and Ron Livingston (Search Party), who will replace Billy Crudup as Barry’s father.
The Flash will be released in cinemas on November 4, 2022, and then 45-days later on HBO Max.
