Back in 2019, Micheal Mann announced that he was working on a novel that will act as the sequel to his 1995 classic heist film Heat. Just this week, the trailer for the book was released, confirming that the events of the book will take place both before and after the events of the original film.
The original Heat has gone on to be a crime-thriller classic, with a stacked cast including Al Pacino as Lt. Vincent Hanna, Robert De Niro as criminal mastermind Neil McCauley, Val Kilmer as Chris Shiherlis, and the rest of the cast being rounded off by Jon Voight, Natalie Portman, Tom Sizemore, Ashley Judd, and Mykelti Williamson. Creating an extension of that story is certainly not an easy task, but it was one that writer/director Micheal Mann has been ready to take on.
In an interview, Mann told Deadline: “It’s been my intention for a long time to do the further stories of Heat. There was always a rich history or back-story about the events in these people’s lives before 1995 in Heat and projection of where their lives would take them after.”
This will be Mann’s first foray into novel writing. Heat 2 will be published and available on August 9th. Watch the trailer below.
