Michael Green to Rewrite “Blade Runner 2”

After almost 30 years since the release of the iconic original, it has been announced that Michael Green is in negotiations to script Blade Runner 2. Green, best-known for co-writing 2011’s Green Lantern, was also involved in Fantastic Four and has worked on the script for an in-development Flash movie. In addition,  he recently finished rewrites on a film for Steven Spielberg called Robopocalypse and the Warner Bros project Gods and Kings.

Fans leery of the unmitigated disaster that was Green Lantern should be comforted by the fact that the first draft of the sequel was written by original Blade Runner scribe Hampton Fancher. Fancher and David Peoples (Twelve Monkeys) adapted the 1982 classic from Philip K. Dick’ sci-fi novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Blade Runner director Ridley Scott is back as well, and will be co-producing the movie this time around. Very little is being released about the plot, but it is said that the story takes place several years after the first film ended.

Phillip K. Dick’s literary works have proven fertile ground for Hollywood over the last thirty years. At least twelve of Dick’s novels and short stories have inspired bit-screen adaptations, including  Minority Report, Total Recall (twice), The Adjustment Bureau, Next, and A Scanner Darkly. Seven more provide the basis for projects currently in development.
