Michael Fassbender’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Taking Cues From ‘The Matrix’

Co-financed by RatPac and Alpha Pictures and produced by Frank Marshall, Arnon Milchan, Jean-Julien Baronnet, Michael Fassbender and Pat Crowley, the movie version of groundbreaking video game Assassin’s Creed is set to leap into theaters on December 21, 2016.

In an interview with Variety, Michael Fassbender talked about playing the game “to get an idea of the physicality of the character”. He also referred to the fan base as “really passionate” and one that values historical accuracy. Green screens have been utilized but the production details also emphasize the use of stuntmen.

Fassbender will be joined by the likes of Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson with an aim to add shine to what has the potential to be glittering historical action-epic. There will however, be no release of an Assassin’s Creed videogame to complement the release of the film. According to Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, it’s a good thing as regards to marketing the film solely.

In addition to Assassin’s Creed, more movies based on Ubisoft games are set to begin production. These include Far Cry, Rabbits, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon. The film will be directed by Justin Kurzel and Fassbender (both previously collaborated on Macbeth) cited The Matrix films as an inspiration for Assassin’s Creed.
