There a very few actors working today that are as fascinating and diverse as Michael Fassbender. He does everything from playing mutant in the renowned X-Men franchise to a brutal slave owner in the Oscar-winning 12 Years Slave. And even though he already has his fair share of upcoming projects, Broad Green Pictures has announced that Fassbender will star as a serial killer in Entering Hades. The studio recently acquired the rights to the novel of the same name, which tells the true story of an Austrian man named Jack Unterweger who was a murder investigator during the day but then a killer at night.
Unterweger committed his first murder in 1974 but was sent to prison soon afterwards. During his time there he became an author and, because of that, was released in 1990 as a prime example of inmate rehabilitation. He reported on crimes throughout the Los Angeles area, but there was also something very secretive going on. No one knew that the supposedly redeemed ex-con had began killing again. As the wild story continued, he ended up leading the police on a chase across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, hoping to convince the Austrian government that he was an innocent man.
Such a strange character is ideal for an actor like Fassbender, and should prove to fit perfectly into his wheelhouse. The film’s script is getting a new draft from Alexander Dinelaris, known best for co-writing Birdman and The Revenant. Fassbender is also set to produce the project, although no director has been attached yet. The Oscar-nominated actor is currently shooting the Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant, and has the hugely-anticipated Assassin’s Creed hitting theaters in December. Since Entering Hades is still in pre-production, look for it sometime in late 2017.
