After marrying a real life prince, Disney movies probably seem pretty droll. That hasn’t stopped Meghan Markle from signing on to narrate Elephant, a new nature documentary premiering on Disney+.
Before leaving the acting world for a royal romance, Markle was Rachel Zane on USA’s Suits. Before that, she was a “briefcase girl” on Deal or No Deal. She also ran the now defunct lifestyle blog The Tig. She became the wife of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, on May 19, 2018. After she officially withdraws from the royal family on March 31, 2020 and left the United Kingdom with her husband, Markle will be making her triumphant return to Hollywood in Disney’s Elephant.
The film focuses on Shani and her son Jomo, two African elephants migrating across the Kalahari Desert with their herd. Elephant will premiere on April 3, 2020, on Disney+, the same day as Dolphin Reef, narrated by Natalie Portman. In honor of Elephant, Disneynature and the Disney Conservation Fund are donating to the charity Elephants Without Borders, which focuses on the protection of elephants in Botswana. Disneynature with all credit Markle as “Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex,” despite Her Grace surrendering her title and duchy at the end of March.
Markle’s charity work and activism have played a large role in her public image, championing such issues as gender equality, and having worked with several non-profits like the United Service Organization. Whatever her royal status, she’ll always be a queen to her fans.
