Until recently, Nintendo seemed like it was quickly falling of the radar. But the launch of their new reality game Pokémon Go has shot them into the stratosphere. Their stock price has jumped up 25%, and the studio isn’t done there. Because of the unheard of success of the game, a potential live-action movie may be in the works. Legendary Pictures is currently at the front of the pack, hoping to strike a nice deal with Nintendo to get the adaptation going. Not only that, a big-name screenwriter is now rumored to be in consideration to pen it.
According to Deadline (and many others), Legendary is eying Max Landis to write the film. He has long list of past works to his name, with the most acclaimed being the sci-fi thriller Chronicle. He’s also writing David Ayer’s Netflix-aquired film Bright, along with having done a draft for the upcoming Power Rangers movie. His diverse career will hopefully aid him in creating a live-action version of Pokémon, which is a hard task to take on.
Looking at the vast world of Pokémon, the script could go down a variety of routes. The 90s animated series was hugely successful, exploring deeply into the game’s vast world. Landis’ past work is mostly of a fantastical style, so this should be a good fit for him. Even though the Pokémon live-action movie is reportedly in development, there has not been any other details revealed as of yet.
