Matthew Lawrence Says He Was Allegedly Dropped From Agency After Refusing To Strip For Director Offering A Marvel Role

In an interview with the Brotherly Love podcast, Matthew Lawrence spoke about a time when he was offered a role at a Marvel production, but only if he allegedly stripped. He spoke about the Me Too movement and times when he’s been on movie sets and allegedly heard male producers talk about giving girls jobs because of their appearance or going out to drink with them.

He discussed everyone’s alleged complacency and responsibilities toward “the casting couch.” One thing he doesn’t think gets talked about enough in the Me Too movement is that it’s a two-way, or even three-way, four-way street. He doesn’t believe enough men have come out in their experiences, even if it may be only one-third of women’s experiences.

He allegedly has been propositioned many times to get a huge role. He detailed one experience.

“I lost my agency because I went to the hotel room, which I can’t believe they would send me to,” Lawrence said on the podcast, “of a very prominent Oscar award-winning director who showed up in his robe, asked me to take my clothes off and said he needed to take polaroid’s of me and that if I did X Y and Z, I would be the next Marvel character. I didn’t do that, and my agency fired me because I left this director’s room.”

Lawrence spoke of a double standard in the reception to a man coming out with their experiences versus a woman coming out with theirs. He also referenced Terry Crews when people laughed at his experiences.

“People don’t support him. They kick him out. Why? Because he’s a man that represents masculinity, and I think our society is less ready to hear that situation going on with men than they are with women actually.”
