Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Delayed to March 2022

Robert Pattinson in 'The Batman'

In a move that shocked no one (but still upset practically everyone), Warner Bros. has decided to push The Batman back from its October 1, 2021 release date to March 4, 2022 release date. This has come only mere hours after it was learned that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune would be pushed from December 18. 2020 to October 1, 2021, taking the spot previously held by The Batman.

While not shocking by any mile, this is still very upsetting, and quite frankly, grim news. Every single new, hot release that was set for 2020 has been pushed back or delayed, while other films set for next years have also suffered the same fate. It does surely appear that 2020 maybe the single worst year for movies. Ever.

With many theaters and studios losing money on the daily, it is uncertain what kind of damage push backs and delays of this size will do. The pandemic is still raging and a vaccine is still more than a year away. But that still hasn’t stopped filming and post production on other projects.

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is still well into post. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is still doing well in post, with pick ups taking place this week. Even Matt Reeves’ The Batman is still currently filming. Yes, it does seem that despite COVID ripping through large parts of the world, movies can still be done in a safe manner. Though the big question remains: Will COVID and massive delays hurt The Batman?

That’s something we’re just gonna have to wait and see.
