Following the critical and commercial success of Ford V. Ferrari, as well as its Oscar nomination for Best Picture, Matt Damon and James Mangold are pairing for another go-around. Damon, according to Deadline, has reportedly signed on to star in the adaptation of Don Winslow’s bestselling 2017 novel The Force, with Mangold at helm for 20th Century Fox.
The film was part of a seven figure deal between Fox and the HarperCollins’ publication in 2017. The first draft of The Force‘s script was compiled by David Mamet, with Mangold diligently assigned to rewrites alongside Scott Frank, the two having previously collaborated on 2017’s Logan. Ridley Scott, Shane Salerno and Kevin Walsh will be serving as producer with Steve Asbell sitting in the executive producer’s chair.
The Force is the first of two projects Mangold has been tinkering with after his recent opus Ford V. Ferrari. Timothee Chalamet recently signed on to portray Bob Dylan in a currently untitled Searchlight film known by its project title Going Electric. The film examines Dylan’s life and career in 1965 in which he transitioned from folk music to rock substituting the his former instruments for the electric guitar.
Thus far, Matt Damon is the only actor currently cast in The Force.
