Marvel Sets Clarity on Upcoming ‘Avengers’ Titles

Since October 2014, it was established that the next Avengers films would be a two-part affair entitled Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, in which our merry team of Marvel superheros would battle their greatest foe to date in the form of Thanos (Josh Brolin, who has teased the role in various MCU features). Disney, Marvel and directors Anthony and Joe Russo set to clarify a few things  – namely that both features will be complete movies of their own, not one long film split into two parts.

This will marked a change in movie titleAvengers: Infinity War, which will still be released as previously noted on May 4, 2018, will be the one feature to include the “Infinity War” moniker while, the fourth Avengers feature will now go under the blanket name “Untitled Avengers” – the film is still set for release on May 3, 2019. This latest round of news on the Avengers front puts some confirmation on speculation that arose back in May from the Russos regarding the first thought that both films would merely one large film cut in half.

The extent of how big this information may be up for greatly speculation though Marvel has shown great control over their films and characters over the years that it may not ultimately make too much of a difference in the end. The Russos, who previously directed both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and this summer’s Captain America: Civil War, inherited the reins of The Avengers following the step-down of director Joss Whedon and frequent Marvel scribes Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely are penning Avengers: Infinity War. The film threads the Infinity Gems storyline that has been woven into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While casting for the upcoming films will likely be quite massive considering the considerable depth of the Marvel ensemble spread across multiple films, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Chris Pratt are confirmed to join Avengers: Infinity War, which is slated to start production later this year.
