Martin Scorsese’s name carries lot of weight, but most movie goers are probably more familiar with his iconic gangster flicks and dramas than his documentaries. The Academy Award-winner has directed sixteen feature length documentaries to date, and now a trailer has released for a sequel to one of those docs.
Pretend it’s a city is the sequel to Scorsese’s 2010 HBO doc Public Speaking, which follows author, public speaker and actor Fran Lebowitz. The sequel once again follows Lebowitz, and gives viewers yet another view into the mind of an outspoken provocateur on the streets of New York City, and who better to discuss her unapologetic opinions with than the quintessential New York City filmmaker himself, Scorsese?
The official synopsis of the upcoming Netflix film reads:
Wander The New York City streets and a fascinating mind of wry writer, humorist, and raconteur Fran Lebowitz as she sits down with Martin Scorsese.
Public Speaking was well received upon its release in 2010. It has a 92% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes with 12 reviews, and an audience score of 84% with over 1,000 reviews
Pretend it’s a City is set to release on Netflix January 8, 2021. Scorsese is also currently in pre-production on his upcoming historical crime drama, Killers of the Flower Moon, which has heavyweights Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro attached to star.
