Mark Wahlberg, one of Hollywood’s busiest stars, just got little bit busier. The star is set to play the leading role in Rosalind Ross’ directorial debut, Stu, according to Deadline.
Plot details are light but the film is a faith-based drama loosely based on a true story. The project is reportedly close to Wahlberg’s heart and he’s been developing it for a number of years. He’s set to produce the film with his producing partner and manager Stephen Levinson alongside Jordan Foss. Colleen Camp and Miky Lee will executive produce. Wahlberg was also apparently very impressed with Ross and felt that she was the right person to tell the story.
Wahlberg most recently starred in the Netflix action film, Spenser Confidential. He also starred in Joe Bell, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. The actor just wrapped filming on Sony’s Uncharted adaptation, which he starred in with Tom Holland. He’s also set to star in the Lionsgate drama Arthur the King and the upcoming action film, Infinite.
Ross is known mostly as a writer. Her spec script Barbarian earned a spot on the 2016 Black List, an annual list of the most promising scripts, and is currently being produced by Atlas entertainment. She’s also been in a relationship with Mel Gibson since 2014.
It’s unclear when we’ll hear more about the upcoming film, but it seems like fans of Marky Mark have quite a bit to look forward to.
