Mark Wahlberg has been cast as Victor “Sully” Sullivan in the upcoming Uncharted movie based on the popular video game franchise. When David O. Russell was originally set to direct the film, Wahlberg was on track to be cast as protagonist Nathan Drake. Now Wahlberg will be cast as young Nathan’s cigar-chomping “too old for this shit” mentor. ParaNorman and Bumblebee director Travis Knight will now direct the film with Spider-Man star Tom Holland cast as young Drake.
Even with the film switching hands multiple times, Wahlberg held true to his involvement with the film. It is now up to Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to write a new script that can give the beloved character justice. Holland had mentioned that he would have liked Chris Pratt or Jake Gyllenhaal to play Sully in the upcoming film. Make no mistake though, pairing Wahlberg and Holland will make for a great story and awesome action scenes.
The Uncharted video games were created by Naughty Dog and published exclusively for PlayStation. Over 41 million copies of the game have been sold, so it only made sense that a movie would be created for these cinematic titles. It’s only a matter of time before we see the film in theaters. Uncharted is expected to release December 18th, 2020.
