Mark Wahlberg to Replace Chris Evans in Antoine Fuqua’s “Infinite”

Mark Wahlberg is currently in talks to star in Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming action thriller Infinite for Paramount Pictures. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wahlberg will be stepping into the lead role after Chris Evans recently dropped out. Sources confirmed that Evans ran into scheduling issues with his Apple television series Defending Jacob.

Infinite is an adaptation of a 2009 novel entitled The Reincarnationist Papers, which centers around a group of immortal men and women who have lived over multiple centuries and dub themselves “the Infinite.” In order to defeat a higher power, the group places their fate on a man who suffers from schizophrenia and learns that his dreams are actually memories from their past lives, only weaponized to face the opposition. Ian Shorr was hired to write the film’s script, while Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will be serving as producers.

Wahlberg has maintained a steady relationship with Paramount. His previous collaborations with them include starring in the last two Michael Bay-directed Transformers sequels, as well as the Daddy’s Home films alongside Will Ferrell. Wahlberg’s last film with Paramount was 2018’s Instant Family, costarring alongside Rose Byrne. Infinite is currently eyeing a September production start.

Evans wraps up his tenure with the MCU this summer in Avengers: Endgame and will be slated to appear in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out this November.
