Mark Wahlberg will be teaming up with Jason Blum to adapt the red-hot article, The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence, into a film. The article, written by Ezra Marcus and James Walsh, was published on April 28 as the cover story of New York Magazine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blumhouse Productions acquired rights to the compelling story earlier this week.
The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence tells the story of a group of young collegiate men and women and their relationship with a student’s manipulative father, Lary Ray. While attending a prestigious liberal arts university, Ray became increasingly involved in the day-to-day lives of vulnerable young adults. Similar to a cult leader, Ray enticed the students with gifts and promises of greater purpose. As the students became more reliant on him, Ray began to manipulate, abuse, and sexually exploit the students, turning the young adults against their parents. The article concludes with the group of students escaping Ray’s mental entrapment.
Blum produced the Oscar-winning BlacKkKlansman and Jordan Peele’s Us. It is unclear whether the production will be made into a feature film or a multi-part series. Look for more details to be released soon.
