The force has always guided him, but he’s decided his next move. Mark Hamill has decided he’s ready to move on from the Star Wars universe.

With countless roles under his belt, Hamill is most well known to audiences as Luke Skywalker. From simple farmboy to a Jedi Knight, Luke was the main character of the original Star Wars trilogy, capturing the imagination and adoration of countless viewers as he attempts to turn the evil Darth Vader back from the dark side.

Since the conclusion of the trilogy with 1983’s Return Of The Jedi, Luke’s story was far from over. Between books, comics, and video games, there was plenty more adventures for Luke to go on. Disney even made him a focal point of their sequel trilogy, picking up the threads of the original trilogy.

However, while Hamill was still involved with recent on-screen depictions of the rebel hero, he’s stated to ComicBook.com that his time has come to hang up the cloak and lightsaber.

“We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters,” Hamill said.

Variety notes that Hamill also joked about how he quite literally disappeared at the end of Last Jedi, leaving his cloak behind ,and he was quite adverse to coming back as a force ghost in the nude.
