Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night) is in talks to join Brad Pitt (Fury) in an untitled WWII thriller to be directed by Robert Zemeckis (Flight). The movie follows a French-Canadian and American assassin (Cotillard and Pitt) who fall in love during a mission to kill the German ambassador in Casablanca. After they get married, Pitt’s character discovers that Cotillard is likely a Nazi spy.
Cotillard is hot off her Oscar nomination for the French drama Two Days, One Night. She’s also going to star with Michael Fassbender (Slow West) in the new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, as well as the upcoming video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed. Pitt joined the Zemeckis project back in February.
The project is also a big move for Zemeckis, who enjoyed a career resurgence with Flight, his first live-action film in nine years. He’s also likely to garner awards recognition for the upcoming true-story picture The Walk starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Don Jon).
This new thriller was written by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) and is currently expected to hit theaters in 2017 with production starting early next year.
