Margot Robbie Promises ‘Barbie’ Movie Will Not Be What Fans are Expecting

Margot Robbie has had promising career in the past few years. She first made a name for herself with her role in Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street, but it was when she portrayed Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, that she became true household name. Robbie will play Quinn again in next year’s The Suicide Squad, but what fans are most excited about is her role in Barbie.

According to Movie Web, she promises that the film, in which she will also produce, will be unlike anything that audiences and fans are expecting. The film has been long awaited, as it first entered development at Sony in 2015 and has undergone multiple rewrites and recasts since. Robbie finally signed on in 2018, and in 2019, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach signed on to write, with Gerwig possibly directing.

When Robbie was casted as Barbie, it seemed like a match made in heaven, with her blonde-bombshell looks, but she insists that she wants to change people’s expectations on the film: “…Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted’”.  The plot and release date are still under wraps, as they have not begun production or have an official director, and the Covid-19 Pandemic has prolonged the film even more. Sounds like Barbie will be unlike anything we could’ve imagined, and Robbie is the perfect person to be a part of it.

Melissa Cusano: I love to escape reality with reading, writing, movies, and music! If I'm not working I love to go to concerts (pre-covid), play video games, and hang out with my dog Ozzi.
