Actress Margot Robbie (Focus, The Wolf of Wall Street, About Time) was one of the only critically and audience-praised aspects of 2016’s Suicide Squad film. Though the movie itself was poorly-edited and lacked the necessary development to succeed as narrative, people really enjoyed Robbie’s portrayal of complex former Arkham employee-turned-villainess, Harley Quinn. In fact, this led executives at Warner Bros. to completely embrace the concept of giving Harley Quinn her own movie.
Over the past year or so, many descriptions of just what kind of film they were going to create have arisen, ranging from a movie focusing on Harley’s relationship with the Joker to the famous Birds of Prey storyline from the comics, to a movie on the Gotham City Sirens, which would focus on Harley, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman. From the beginning, Robbie has been extremely involved in the future of her character as well as the creation of any upcoming stories featuring Harley, the number of which might just be increasing. Robbie has been quoted describing the project which she has been creating for quite some time, which sources make sure to specify is separate from the aforementioned plot pitches. In this new idea, Robbie wants to focus on giving her character membership in a “girl gang,” a concept which makes sense given Harley’s character.
Still, there’s a lot of time left to go before any such movie will hit the screens. Until then, Robbie will still appear soon in the much-hyped I, Tonya as well as Goodbye Christopher Robin with Domhnall Gleeson.
