In a major development on Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, Emma Stone won’t be starring in the film after all. Chazelle directed La La Land, another film that Stone starred in, so it was an exciting thought to see the two reunited. According to Indiewire, Emma Stone is dropping out of Babylon due to scheduling reasons. It is said that Damien Chazelle and his team are in talks about having Margot Robbie to replace Stone’s role. Brad Pitt is still attached to the film. If Margot Robbie joins the film, this will be a reunion for Pitt and Robbie, as they previously were in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Plot details for Babylon are still under wraps, but it is said that the film is not a musical but is “…a bold auteur piece with a significant budget”. The film will be set in Hollywood during the 1920s and will focus on the industry changing from silent films to talkie films. Paramount got the rights to the film in late 2019, and was set to release on Christmas Day 2021. This was obviously before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, and the current release date is not confirmed. The film will be produced by Olivia Hamilton, Matt Plouffe, Marc Platt and Tobey Maguire.
