A teaser trailer has been released for Oscar-winner Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel Wuthering Heights. The trailer captures the torrid love affair between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, played by Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, set to Charli XCX’s Everything is Romantic.
Warner Bros. is distributing the film in collaboration with Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment. William Wyler first adapted the film in 1939 with Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Since then, the story has been retold many times, including in the 1992 version starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.
Fennell wrote the screenplay marking her third collaboration with LuckyChap. Her first two collaborations, Saltburn (also starring Elordi) and Promising Young Woman, proved divisive, with Promising Young Woman earning her an Academy Award. Fennell, Robbie and Josey McNamara are producing, with Sara Desmond and Tom Ackerley serving as executive producers.
Robbie appears next opposite Colin Farrell in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, while Elordi recently drew attention in the festival circuit for his role in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming re-imagining of Frankenstein.
Charli XCX, coming off a massive year, will be contributing original music to the film as well.
