For many unfortunate reasons, the DC Cinematic Universe is off to rocky start. Man of Steel has been the most “well-received” of the installments so far, but even it didn’t make too many waves back in 2013. Then, this year brought Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, both of which were heavily panned and didn’t perform at the box office as well as Warner Bros. had hoped. However, there’s still a lot of potential for this superhero world in the years to come. And what that statement hinges on is how the plethora of iconic characters are utilized. One of those, having had many on-screen appearances already is Superman’s girlfriend, Lois Lane.
The character of Superman became a huge hit in cinema when Richard Donner’s 1978 Superman wowed audiences with the mighty hero, as well introducing the edgy Lois Lane. The feisty news reporter was played by Margaret Kidder, who will probably always be tied closely to that character. Regardless, the latest reimagining of Lane is currently being handled by Amy Adams. The actress is, of course, very talented Hollywood star. Although, the character itself has never been written with much depth or importance in her two appearances. This failure has not only struck hard with many DC Comics fans, but Kidder also had a few words to share about the matter. When asked about how well newest version of Lane has been handled (via HeyUGuys), Kidder revealed she’s not too happy with it.
They took one of the best American actresses’ around, Amy Adams, and didn’t give her anything to do! I mean, how stupid is that? They made her what used to be the girlfriend, which kind of ended in the 60s with women’s rights.
While sad to admit, Kidder’s words are clearly true in the big scheme of things. Neither Man of Steel of Steel nor Dawn of Justice have given Lane much time or care. Nevertheless, Adams gives the character her all, which should never be overlooked. And as the DC Cinematic Universe progresses, hopefully Lois Lane will get her time in the spotlight.
