Malcolm McDowell to Lead Indie Horror ‘The Benefactor’

A Clockwork Orange lead Malcolm McDowell is set to star in a new U.S. indie horror film The Benefactor.

The film centers around a once-prolific painter who moves to an artist residency after the death of his wife. Soon after moving in, the painter begins to fear that the house may be haunted and that ghosts are driving him towards madness. The film is directed by David Carson, who previously worked with McDowell on the 1994 film Star Trek: Generations. This is the first feature-length script written by Mark and Anna Casadei.

McDowell is a veteran in genre filmmaking and is no stranger when it comes to horror. The British actor has appeared in films like Rob Zombie’s Halloween reboot, Brandon Cronenberg’s 2012 horror film Antiviral, and the 2012 horror film Excision. The actor is also set to star alongside Nick Frost and Simon Pegg in the upcoming Amazon comedy horror series Truth Seekers.

Carson’s last feature film was 2004’s Unstoppable starring Wesley Snipes, but much of his work has been on shows like Smallville and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

There’s currently no information on the rest of the cast, filming schedule, or release date of The Benefactor.
