As more time passes without progress on the revival of a Blade film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wesley Snipes is slowly getting proven correct when he stated, “There’s only ever been one Blade. There’s only ever going to be one Blade” as his reprised character of Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Six years ago, at Comic-Con San Diego, Kevin Feige announced that Oscar winner Mahershala Ali would be portraying the famed vampire slayer in a revival of Blade. However, there has been virtually no progress since that announcement, and no one can provide a clear explanation as to why.

There have been various rumors, including that the delay was coming from Ali’s end. But Ali cleared that up in a recent red carpet interview with Variety at the New York premiere for Jurassic World: Rebirth.

Since the initial announcement, Ali’s Blade film has faced numerous delays and setbacks. From directors dropping out to lost cast members, an array of dilemmas surrounds this film.

Ali is still determined to portray this character, and made it known very bluntly in his interview. “Call Marvel. I’m Ready.” He continued, “Let them know I’m ready.”

Back in October, Blade was removed from Disney’s release calendar after having release set for November 7, 2025. Originally, it was set to release in November of 2023.

While we now know the holdup isn’t on Ali’s end, it still leaves the question of what is? There has been no new information about the film for a while. However, as of right now, Marvel Studios still plans to make the film.
