Mads Mikkelsen Joins Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge in ‘Indiana Jones 5’

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is riding the franchise train, successfully so with his powerful portrayals of villains in iconic franchises including Bond, Marvel, and Fantastic Beasts. A Star Wars Story: Rogue One was rare occurrence of him not being a villain in an American film, and a high-profile one at that. More recently he showed off his sensitive side in Academy Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominee Another Round, earning him much acclaim for his more nuanced and enlivening performance.

He is certainly keeping his schedule full after recently filming the third Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film and now will be making the move to another major and action-packed project, the fifth in the Indiana Jones film series, Deadline announced.

The role he will be playing is still under wraps, and it is not known whether or not this project will be taking the more expected route of making him the film’s antagonist. What we do know is that Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag fame is taking on the role of the female lead alongside Harrison Ford, though more character details have not yet been revealed.

Production is scheduled to start this summer with director James Mangold. Steven Spielberg fans should not worry, as Spielberg is definitely still involved in the project as a producer and key decision maker. Composer John Williams, responsible for the film’s iconic music, is also returning for this next installment.

Mikkelsen can next be seen in Riders of Justice, the release of which has been long delayed after receiving rave reviews in first screenings. The first trailer for the film has just arrived, and is scheduled for release this May.

Indiana Jones 5, full title to be announced, is set to open in theaters on July 29, 2022.
