Mackenzie Davis Joins Jason Reitman’s ‘Tully’

Mackenzie Davis (That Awkward Moment) has signed on to join Charlize Theron in Jason Reitman‘s (Juno) latest flick Tully, according to Variety. The story will follow Marlo, a mother of three (including a newborn baby) who is given a nighttime nanny by her brother. At the start, Marlo is skeptical about the extravagance, but soon finds herself drawn to the nanny’s thoughtful, unpredictable and challenging personality, resulting in a bond between the two. Theron is set to play Marlo, while it is still unclear which role Davis will be filling, if not that of the nanny.

Reitman is a filmmaker well known for his quirky and often thought-provoking dramas. Some of his most popular past films include JunoThank You for SmokingUp in the AirYoung Adult and Men, Women & Children. Theron starred in 2011’s Young Adult, making Tully his second collaboration with the Oscar-winning actress. Davis, based on her past work, has all the chops to fill out the role of Reitman’s young pithy ingenue, much like Ellen Page in Juno. The writer of that film, Diablo Cody, is also producing alongside Reitman on Tully.

Davis was last seen in Ridley Scott’s The Martian. Coming up, she will appear in the Blade Runner remake and Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town. Her recent Tribeca indie, Always Shine, won Davis the Best Actress prize at the festival. Her AMC series Halt and Catch Fire will air its third season this coming August.
