Lukas Haas Talks The Reality Of Filming ‘The Revenant’

Ten years ago The Revenant hit theaters. The film earned the director Alejandro G. Iñárritu his second Oscar for Best Director. The year before he also won the same award for Birdman the year before. The same night Leonardo DiCaprio won the Academy Award for Best Lead Actor for his work in the film.

Another actor involved in the film, Lukas Haas, recently talked with Movieweb and revealed what it was like working on the film. He said “And it was a really, really difficult shoot, is the truth. But that was his (Iñárritu) intention, you know? He even laid it all out for us in the beginning. We had a meeting – all the actors and him – and he was like ‘Alright, listen. So, this is going to be very, very hard, and that’s the whole point,’ you know?”

Haas called the director “brilliant” and said the two keep in touch. He is aware of  Iñárritu’s upcoming film but does not have secret details about it. Haas went on to say Iñárritu was ‘like, “It’s all about pain and suffering. That’s what the movie is about. So, you are going to be in pain, you’re going to be suffering, and I’m about to be in pain, I’m going to be suffering. We’re all going to go through this together.”’

Haas added that the wardrobe was authentic and not made from modern materials. He also said the film took six to seven months to shoot in Calgary and he “almost start[ed] to feel despondent” due to the location’s isolation. But assured audiences that the process “was definitely worth it.”

Haas discussed his experience on The Revenant while promoting his new movie, High Rollers. The film is a sequel to Cash Out which premiered only last year. The films follow John Travolta and Haas as they plan and execute robberies.

High Rollers is now available for digital purchase.
