Lily James Signs on for ‘Young Woman and the Sea’

Up and coming British actress Lily James, who starred as Cinderella in director Kenneth Branagh’s box office hit earlier this year, has signed on to star in Paramount’s Young Woman and the Sea.

Penned by Jeff Nathanson (Tower Heist), the story centers on Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle, an American Olympian swimmer who made history at age 20 as the first woman to swim across the English Channel. Jerry Bruckheimer, who is currently teaming with Nathanson on the latest installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise – Dead Men Tell No Tales – will produce.

James became known to viewers as Lady Rose in British TV’s Downton Abbey and has landed major roles in several projects since. She will play central character Natasha Rostova in War and Peace, an upcoming TV mini-series. She has completed filming Burr Steers’ Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, playing the role of Elizabeth Bennett. In change from period pieces, she will be in Edgar Wright’s heist film Baby Driver, opposite Ansel Elgort (The Fault in our Stars), Emmy winner Jon Hamm (TV’s Mad Men), and Academy Award winners Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects) and Jamie Foxx (Ray).

The search is still on for a director. We will keep you posted as new developments arise.
