Iranian-American Liam LoPinto’s Oscar-qualifying live-action short, “The Old Young Crow,” has garnered massive media attention at various film festivals. Arian Moayed, a two-time Tony and Emmy Award-nominated actor, and Rayka Zehtabchi, an Oscar-winning filmmaker, are set to executive produce the film.
The film, praised for its innovative storytelling, focuses on an encounter with an old Japanese woman, which leads to a spiritual journey through her past. “The Old Young Crow” has a refreshing take on storytelling, blurring the lines between animation, fiction, and documentary. LoPinto’s work has focused mainly on diaspora, refugees, immigrants, and dissidents.
Other executive producers involved in the project include Scott Aharoni, Mamak Shahbazi, and Bill LoPinto. Arian Moayed said he is thrilled to be a part of this new project, saying he “exemplifies that type of stories Iranians and Iranian Americans are dying to tell. In a time and place where Iranians are rarely able to tell their complicated and meaningful stories, it’s refreshing to dive into Liam’s worldview so audiences can better understand the beauty of Iran and its people.”
LoPinto is a first-generation Iranian-American filmmaker, sure to make an impact by shedding light on the beauty of Iran and its people. His complex and meaningful stories resonate with audiences. His previous films include “French Fly,” which was selected for CAA’s Moebius Showcase. His documentary “Karam Camera” was made in partnership with the Karam Foundation, which fosters education and development for young Syrian Refugees.
