The Knives Out 2 news subsided for a short period of time, but it is now officially back. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Hamilton and One Night in Miami alum Leslie Odom Jr. has joined the murder flick set for a summer 2021 shoot.
Odom Jr. received a Tony Award for his role as Aaron Burr in Hamilton, while he was just nominated for best supporting actor for his role as singer/song writer Sam Cooke in One Night in Miami.
Knives Out 2 will not be Odom Jr.’s first mystery rodeo as the singer and actor starred in the Kenneth Branagh directed, Agatha Christie Adaptation Murder on the Orient Express in 2017, which also has a sequel set for a 2022 release in Death on the Nile. Similarly, the two murder franchises will be centralized on the detective protagonist, while an A-list cast stars opposite in every new murder mystery.
However, Rian Johnson‘s Knives Out 2 seems to be getting more buzz around Hollywood. Johnson will return as writer director, while Daniel Craig will return as the southern detective Benoit Blanc. Additional cast members, all announced in the last week, includes Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, and Kathryn Hahn.
This is certainly not the final casting announcement as the first film boasted a cast that included Daniel Craig, Ana De Armas, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, LaKieth Stanfield, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Frank Oz, and many more. There is sure to be similarly big castings to come following Odom Jr.
Not much is known about the sequel, now merely titled Knives Out 2, but it will certainly be a huge movie. The film and the subsequent sequel was purchased by Netflix for over $450 million earlier in 2021.
Knives Out 2 is scheduled for a summer 2021 shoot, and will be released at some point in 2022.
