Tragically actress Jessica Walter has died. According to Deadline Walter died peacefully in her sleep last night on March 24 in her own home. She was 80 years old at the time of her death and had been acting for over 60 years.
Jessica Walter was born on January 31, 1941 in New York City, and she attended and graduated from the New York’s High School of the Performing Arts and the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. Over the course of her career Walter performed in many theater productions both on and off Broadway.
Throughout her carer Jessica Walter acted in many different movies including the 1966 movie Grand Prix and the 1977 movie Play Misty for Me. Her performances in both of these movies earned her Golden Globe nominations. Walter also had an incredibly extensive and award winning television career. She earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries. However most people probably recognize Walter for her role the Ron Howard’s television comedy series Arrested Development. On the show she played the Bluth family’s alcohol chugging narcissistic matriarch, Lucille Bluth. Another of Walter’s most beloved roles was that of Malory Archer from the animated spy series Archer. Like Lucille, Malory was also an alcoholic and domineering mother character who torments her own children.
However unlike her famous character, Jessica Walters was a wonderful mother and beloved by her daughter Brooke Bowman. Walter is survived by her daughter and her grandson. Her family have requested that to honor Jessica Walter mourners can donate to the charity Guiding Eyes for the Blind, instead of sending flowers.
