On Monday, Space Jam 2 star LeBron James unveiled the uniforms the Tune Squad would wear in the new sequel. Space Jam: A New Legacy’s new uniforms have hints of the 1996 jersey worn by Michael Jordan in the original film, but have much more color and are busier than the older version. The new version features orange Looney Tunes circles on the side complemented with a blue color scheme for the rest of the uniform.
In addition to James, the Warner Bros. sequel will also include NBA stars such as Anthony Davis, Chris Paul, Damian Lillard and Chris Paul.
A New Legacy was helmed by director Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip, Night School) from a script written by Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler and Searching’s Sev Ohanian. James received praise for his supporting role in the 2015 comedy Trainwreck with Amy Schumer, but Space Jam: A New Legacy will be his first starring role in a movie.
“I’m super excited about this film. I grew up idolizing the whole Space Jam everything,” James can be heard saying in leaked audio that captured his emotional speech to the cast and crew when filming wrapped.
Space Jam: A New Legacy is set to release in theaters on July 16, 2021.
