Reboot of ‘The Exorcist’ Reportedly in the Works

Considered the most terrifying film of all time during its initial release, The Exorcist has been one of the most influential horror films of all time. With numerous sequels throughout the years, plenty of parodies and even wining some Oscars, the horror genre really owes itself to The Exorcist for how much of an impact it had on the industry. With Hollywood wanting to capitalize on classic franchises, it has been reported that new reboot of The Exorcist is set to come out in 2021.

The report occurred when the studio producing the upcoming reboot,  Morgan Creek, were discussing details on an upcoming adaptation of David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers. Details for other films have surfaced including a “theatrical reboot” of  The Exorcist being one of their projects. Not much has been stated on the reboot, particular one who would be attached to direct and write or even if the film will have some ties to the original movie or a complete remake all together.

It certainly sounds like a difficult tasks to reboot The Exorcist as it is a film that would certainly be hard to top if attempting to remake it. Rebooting it as a continuation would sound like the proper move, however might be a bit more difficult than it sounds considering that the franchise had a spotty track record of films with many not coming close to the original film. While some of the sequels and shows based off the iconic film have their fans, considering how hard it is to top the original even with those sequels leave some fans skeptical on this reboot. Regardless, if given the right director and writer, it could lead to one of the more interesting horror reboots in recent memory. We’ll see in 2021 when Pazuzu potentially returns to wreck havoc.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
