Lady Gaga displayed a charming sense of humor this past weekend during her Saturday Night Live appearance. The pop star pulled double duty appearing as musical guest and host, a feat only Timothée Chalamet and Charli XCX have taken on this season.
The Bad Romance singer quickly addressed the Razzie she and co-star Joaquin Phoenix received for their performances in Joker: Folie à Deux. The Razzies, also known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, honor the worst performances and movies of the year. This year, Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis and Marvel’s Madame Web were amongst the nominees for worst picture. Gaga and Phoenix received the Razzie for worst screen combo.
During her opening monologue, the 14-time Grammy winner hilariously said, “…joke’s on them—I love winning things, and my Razzie brings me one step closer to an EGORT. It’s like an EGOT, but it’s hurtful.” Not only did the Todd Phillips film receive poor reviews, it also lost Warner Bros. millions of dollars.
Lady Gaga probably has nothing to worry about though. In February, she became the female artist with the most monthly listeners in the history of Spotify, and her latest album, Mayhem, has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Pitchfork wrote: “Almost twenty years into her recording career and more famous than ever, she is right where she’s supposed to be.”
